A reminder from Network Solutions about the domain name, prompted me to stump up some cash and wonder where a year went. For some reason I looked up a domain I used to own (gamekitten.com) and there is some highly questionable looking Japanese stuff on it now, weird. Anyway, stuck a different theme up and promised myself I may actually do something with the domain this year.
In the gallery
Prompted by yesterdays post, there is now the start of an image gallery section (permalinked at the top too, incase you miss it), christened with some of Porks EQ screenshots. I had not seen these since they were taken 7 or 8 years ago, yet still remember quite alot of the situations, how scary is that?

Don’t worry this isn’t a rake over the coals of Everquest type post, maybe that’s coming though, but more about one screenshot that turned up.
Back when we stayed up all night
A few things to note about this screenshot taken by Piip, probably at 3am one Saturday:
- It’s shown at 80% of full size
- The low damage the player is dealing, which is of course relative, but no game now would launch with such unimpressive figures whizzing through the combat log versus end game NPCs.
- The lack of stuff for the player to do in combat, auto attack and occasionally backstab (as a rogue)
- The functional interface
- One of the people in this still plays the game, and with the same character.
Anyway, it was fun at the time.
Your History
Today I’ve excavated a few histories of CFH from the archives, the first was written around 1999 and the second in 2003. There will be a third to follow, but tha will involve me writing instead of just copy and pasting.
Sort of success
Did a little digging, found a few old versions of the CFH websites. I shall stick up a few of the better bits in due course. The various sites have a bit of history themselves as it goes.
Firstly there was smerfy on Globalnet, then it went to quake2.co.uk, then to clanfromhell.com, then the domain went into limbo for a while for reasons I can’t remember at which time I hosted a bit on my own space. Then back to the proper domain, then the site went on a break as I didn’t want to pay for anywhere to host it, though I still retained the rights.
It’s going to time some time piecing it all together, as quite a lot is lost to time and can only be recovered by the internet archive.
CFH original skin, what was Shig thinking?
First!
For a while I’ve just been using clanfromhell for email only, but the time came to pony up cash for another year, and I found somewhere about £10 cheaper that threw in a basic hosting package as well. I could of let the domain lapse I guess, but it’d be odd someone else other than the real CFH owning it.
I might of stuck the CFH logo here, but on account of me not knowing where the old websites are (I sort of know they are on old HDs but am not entirely sure which PC is currently running them), the only images that came up on a clanfromhell search were for some reason my XBL tag, so it’ll have to do for today.
